Interactions among Six Crises Facing Humanity

Climate chaos and ecosystem degradation; patriarchy and misogyny; systemic poverty and social deprivation; plutocracy and corporatocracy; prejudice and bigotry; and a culture of violence and perpetual warfare - how are these six crises interconnected?
Climate chaos is harshest on the poor. The fossil fuel industry uses financial contributions to stop climate mitigation legislation. Patriarchal views produce few women in political leadership. Bias against women leaders is high. Systemic poverty is often hardest on women. The poor usually have little political power. There is prejudice against the poor with the misunderstanding that they are “lazy.” Low income people provide most of the soldiers that fight in armed conflict. Plutocracy and corporatocracy favor the continued extraction and burning of fossil fuels. The rich form alliances with racists and religious fundamentalists to gain political power. The armaments industry funds pro-war legislation. Prejudice and bigotry result in harm to women, and minorities. Fear and hatred of different races and religions can fuel armed conflicts, harmful policies and support for authoritarian leadership. A culture of violence and perpetual warfare are most harmful to the poor, women, and minorities. Climate chaos can create the conditions for ethnic violence. Armed conflict becomes a means of authoritarian control. Every day violence is most harmful to women, minorities, and persons of different sexual orientations.
